SHANGHAI, Feb 5 (Reuters) - Weak banking shares pulled China's stock market into negative territory on Thursday afternoon, after the market rose in the morning because of hopes that economic growth would soon start recovering.

The Shanghai Composite Index <.SSEC>, which was up 1.77 percent at midday, was down 0.35 percent at 2,100.316 points with 25 minutes of trade left. Turnover was heavy.
